Just got back from Wild West Pawn and Gun in Sherman. Went with the intention of picking up another Turk 38, but ended up with much more.

1939 K.Kale Turk M-38 with beautiful blonde stock and mirror bore.Cleaning rod and bayonet included. All numbers matching except bolt.

1943 K.Kale Turk M-38, same condition as above, but like new stock in walnut.Bayonet and cleaning rod included.

1928 Tula 91/30 hex receiver Mosin Nagant, excellent wood, 90% blueing, mirror bore. All numbers match except bolt. No cleaning rod.My best hex barrel yet!

1943 Tula 91/30 Mosin Nagant. Typical wartime production with "not so smooth" metal receiver machine marks. Best wood I've seen on a 91/30 which is a deep mahogany red. VG bore. All numbers match except bolt.80% blueing. No cleaning rod. Now my prettiest wartime production Mosin yet.

The bayonets for the Turks are included with purchase and I ended up with one German WW1 GEW issue and one Turk modified Czech issue. Both nice and unsharpened.

You guys in the area need to stop by this shop. Jack (the owner) will let you paw over ALL his rifles to get a true handpick selection.

Damage for the four rifles including bayos and cleaning rods?
$199.00

He just received about 60 rifles this week and expects that many more before next Tuesday.

His inventory includes:
SMLE Enfields
VZ-24
VZ 98/22
Bosnian M-48
Nagant M-44
Nagant 91/30
K-31
M-38 Turk
And a few more I have forgotten.Over 200 in stock though.

30 more Turks just landed, but not out of the boxes yet.

Jeff the 1928 Tula you mentioned should be a Dragoon, they did not make a 91/30 until 1930. What they did do was convert dragoons to 91/30s just by updating them with 91/30 parts. Check & see what kind of rear sight you have, sometimes they left the old ladder or sawback sights on. The dragoon barrel was just a bit longer then a 91/30.

Thanks Jim. I figured that folks in the area would like to know about the place. I've never run across a shop like this one before and want to share the fun.

Dean, your right about it being a dragoon. It does have regular updated rear sights and is about 1/2 inch longer than my other 91/30's. He still has two more hex receivered 91/30's left . I believe a 23 and a 29 for about $45-50 each.

There is going to be another shipment of rifles today most likely . More Turks and 91/30's.

Here's the scoop. Called this morning to see if Turks were out of the boxes yet. Reply was no, but come on over and I'll let YOU take them out and pick from them.
WooHoo.
After pilfering through 30 Turk 38s, I found that this lot was better than last.
About 6 had new stocks, two of which were the hatchet carved variety. The other four were great, slim walnut stocks and blonde.
Found 3 WW1 converts in the bunch, but those were about average for wear.
The remainder were garden variety in g-vg condition. Couldn't check the bores since the Turks were nice enough to fill them with cosmoline. I did see about 8 with repair jobs to the stocks ranging from "how in the heck did they do that" to "why in the heck did they do that".
About 6 rifles had all numbers matching except for bolts.
Bolts on these were from various countries. Some clearly were Turk, others were either marked with German or Czech stamps. Nothing REAL special about this lot,but some nice ones were to be had nonetheless.

I did make it home with some though.
There was only one tiger-striped walnut stock in the bunch and I grabed it.

The bayonets were a real mix-match.
These Turks didn't let anything go to waste.
Some were German K98 bayos that had the blades cut off and a Turk blade soldered on? Others were the stamped steel, and solid steel Ersatz type. I did Find three oddballs for my collection. One is the older hook pommel type, one has a solid bronze and brass handle, the other a German GEW type.

It was fun but I'm covered in cosmoline, tired and light in the pocketbook.

By the way, the owner tried to order more 91/30s from Century and THEY ARE OUT OF THEM !

Gah!

By the time I get back all the good stuff'll be gone!

Oh well.

I wonder if he has any FR-8s? If he does, think he could hold one for me?

I've already bought 2 bosnian mausers, a k-31 and a russian m-44 from him. The mausers and the k-31 are great guns, the mausers show very littel use, and the bores are nigh on perfect. the ruskie, well, it needs a lot of work. Metal is good, but the stock was held together with spit, I think. I tried cleaning it and it just started falling apart.

hmmm... he has Lee-Enfields, too, right? maybe need to get another SMLE, can never have enough of those...and a czech and a turk and a... hmmm..maybe it's a good thing that I'm a bagillion miles away right now.

Ah, but another update is due !!

He just received a lot of Albanian SKS's. Packed in the meanest cosmoline you've ever come across.

He's also getting two lots of M44 Carbines.
Polish and Hungarian ,I believe.

He still has a few K-31's, plenty of SMLE's, and racks upon racks of Turks.

When you go by there, don't miss the newest addition to the racks.
Turkish 38 Bulldogs !!!
He's taken 6 Turk 38's, removed the front sights, chopped the barrel off to just in front of the stock. Replaced and aligned the site back on barrel, and crowned the muzzle. The look pretty neat. Great truck guns. Price is $65 and is pretty cheap when considering the machine work and labor he put in to them.

He's tried ordering more 91/30's, but no one has any to sell. Century told him they were out.
