Just got in the latest issue of Gun List magazine. It has a full page ad for Hunters Lodge Corporation. In it are some very tempting items but, a word to the wise, resist the temptation!

I purchased one of their "complete in good condition" Czech Model 52 Assault Rifles (VZ-52) and received a rusted piece of junk that had a missing buttplates (inner and outer), buttplate catch, handguard retainer, thread protector, a dented magazine and a bore that had no remaining rifling, NONE! After many days of removing thick, granular rust from the bore, a 7.62 slug drops through without resistance! I tried to return it but got nothing but insults and lies.

A friend ordered one of their FN-49 parts kits. He figured if the bore was bad he could pick up one of the new barrels that Century and Tapco are selling. He did not realize that the "AS-IS" clause in the description applied not only to potential missing parts, but to condition as well. The description does mention "reassembling" the rifle TWICE so it would stand to reason that the condition is such that would allow this. What he got was a corroded mess that even if cleaned would not yield a safe firearm due to the advance state of deterioration. Not only that but more than 25% of the parts were missing. The wood was cracked, gouged and dented beyond repair.

If you are still tempted, take a close look at the ad... Would you purchase from a company that tells you they have "Antique 8mm rifles from the Otterman Empire"? Who were the ottermans? Were they river dwelling, dam building, super-heros? I don't think so...

Consider yourself warned...

Do a search on Hunter's Lodge in Marketplace and the General Discussion and I believe that there are similar horror stories.

Caveat Emptor!

Thanks for the heads-up. I wonder if they have any idea what the NRA grading scale is all about??
The Otterman Empire ??? Wasn't that a bunch of couch potatoes?? ;)

yeah, I bought some "brand new" Garand enbloc clips from them, when I got them they looked brand new.....freshly dug out of a dirtpile brand new. I kept them, figured it was easier than sending them back, and by the time I finished cleaning the rust off them, most were shiny silver, no park left.

A couple of years ago I ordered a Swedish mauser M38 replacement stock from these assholes. They were advertised as very nice. I payed an extra hand select fee for a stock with the range chart on it. What i got was a M38 stock with a 7-9" crack in the butt and about 2/3 of a decal(the rest was scraped off). I had to pay shipping back and they charged a restocking fee. They are bad news. Run from them!

I get a kick out some of the new members talking about the FN49 kits they have. If they think Century is bad, they had better get their vaseline ready. :D Sorry for the mispelling. :)

i think you mean vaseline dean, that vasoline is extremely flammable and irritates the roids! i personally was looking into buying a 49 parts kit once myself until i researched it.

Ya'll reminded me of a cute story that has nothing to do with this post...

A friend of mine's 5-year old daughter had severely chapped lips, so they put vaseline on them each night to heal them. The school nurse called the mother a little confused one day. Seems the girl's lip had started to bleed (she had a habit of biting her lip) and the teacher sent her to the nurse. The nurse noted her cracked lips and asked what happened. "I dunno", she said, "everynight my daddy puts GASOLINE on my lips!"

The nurse and mom had a good laugh when it was all cleared up! :D
