I have a hard time figuring out older "named model" Smith and Wessons. A little help, please? This is a J-Frame .22LR marked *22 Long Rifle CTG* on the barrel. Is it a pre 34 or 35? Thanks.

It is officially a .22/.32 Kit Gun (a 22 on a .32 frame) You are right in that is a "Pre Model 34". Back in the day it was made, they were just referred to as a "Kit Gun".

I talked to smith and wesson's customer service department today about this gun. The dude I spoke with agreed it's a 22-32 kit gun pre-34. He thinks it was made between 1953 and 1957. Serial # is 31XXX, no letter prefix.

Sweet little bugger, I can't wait to shoot it. It's soaking in the ultra-sonic machine right now, getting all the lint out of the nooks and crannies. It doesn't look like it's seen a whole lot of use.

Some very nice revolvers. Are you buying them all? The 27 is probably S&W's nicest modern revolver. Beats the snot out of any Colt! And, I have had many of them.

Yeah I'm keeping these. This is as close to a 401k as I've been able to get these days. I'm also keeping a Colt SAA 4.75" third gen without transfer bar. All the guns this guy brought in are stiff with 40 years old oil. I don't know how I got this lucky.

The guy who brought these in said his father collected them all before teh '70s. He wanted to trade for some modern guns, so I gave him store credit. 15 guns total he brought me, I'm selling the other eight: A Model 14, a Model 17 (a friend called dibs); A belgian made browning auto rifle take-down in .22 with the original case (easily 100% condition); A Colt SAA 7.5" 3rd gen without transfer bar, A thompson contender with barrels for .22 LR, .22 Jet, and .44 Mag; A set of butler mini pistols in .22 short, and a NAA mini revolver in .22 short.

Sometimes I feel like a drug dealer who's addicted to his own product.:uhoh::smile:

We'll see about the 27... better than a Python, you say?

No, although I have a couple of Colt Official Police .38s I would just as soon shoot as my Python. To be honest, my 27s (5 & 6") do not get much play. I take out my 28 no-dash, 19-3, 66-1, Speed Six, Blackhawk, etc. if I want to shoot .357 Mag. But then I am just as likely to take a .41 or .44 too. Ah, so many guns, so little time.:cry:
