Century's U-Fix Em Polish M44 Report/Question...

Hi all, quick report/question for those in the know:
Gun arrived fine but initial examination revealed the barrel/receiver assy could rotate 5 deg. back/forth in the wood stock, after dissassemby/reassemby for cleaning it was hopefully the 2 screws weren't tightned down enough. Now there is no play in it.
Overall bluing is 40-50%, bore a little dark but cleaned up nicely revealing the grooves/lands with a tad of pitting towards the chamber end (nothing much).
Wood's in surprisingly VG-Exc cond. with no ser# on buttstock, however some funnyguy long ago left his carved initials in the buttstock (small though). The ser # of the Rcvr and Buttplate match, Mag catch and Bolt are different. The bolt is complete (seems to be of Russian origin? (I think) with 4 numbers grossly stamped off kilter "96XX".
Everthing seems to be where it should be when I stripped it down for cleaning, however, my (2) complaints are when the Bolt is all the way back (like going to chamber the next round), I can move the bolt forward a little by pulling on the trigger, Is this normal? Complaint #2 is the the bottom of the mag catch/ammo release plate is a little wobbly, not as tight as my other newer M44.
Overall, not bad for $18, but it seems complete, and wondered if there initially wass something wrong with it (IE: Wobbly Barrel/Rcvr in wood) or Century made a mistake and sent me a Fair-Good Polish M44?

How does a mere mortal (non-FFL) obtain a price list of Century's U-Fix-Em deals?

C&R is an "FFL"-Type 3 and Century gives them/us "dealer prices".
Currently UFixEm's are 19.87, last month they were 10% off.
Problem is, on mine don't know if it was a fluke or not (1st UFixEm), but don't believe theres anything to Fix! :D With exception to the finish.

Century had a great deal last month, with Spanish FR-8's for $49.95 less 10% off. I ordered 2 and are due in today. They are sold out though, but may have more in a few weeks.

So far the reports have been, just minor screws missing.

I have considered getting an C&R, but I'm still not sure I want to get on BATF's short list. Any chance one of you guys would be willing to do a cut and paste to me in EMail with some of these prices? Century doesn't think I'm worthy of talking to. :rolleyes:

Just ordered a couple of the U-Fixum FR-8 rifles. Who knows what I'll get, but at that price, I'm sure to make a couple of bucks on the deal. At very least, taking both rifles to make one good still isn't a bad deal when you realize that the price for one at the distributers is $200 ++.

Glad to hear that the FR-8's are back in stock, since they were out of stock as of last Wednesday.

I got my 2 UFIXEM FR-8's today and I am absolutely amazed. Every single part is there! The only thing "wrong" with them is the wood!

FR-8 #1: 1/2 inch chip at the recever tang. I had to go over the rifle for 10 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong.

FR-8 #2: 1 inch chunk taken out at the top buttplate area. It looks like part of an arsenal dovetail broke off. Very fixable.

I would rate both bores VG+ both with matching bolts, both have about 80% park left. They came very dry and dusty, kind of like they were stored behind a furnace after 20 years.

For $50 they were an absolute steal. I guess I had a lucky roll of the dice!

:) Yes, if you fax them a copy of your drivers license and and the filled out form that they have (I think) on their page you can order ammo and anything else that does not require an FFL. I did this for years before I got a C&R. I was also able to get a sales rep, and he would sometimes give me the dealer price instead of the normal retail price. :cool:

A lot of people complain about Century but they have always given me great value for the money spent. Ya just can't beat free shipping of ammo (particularly on the west coast)! Just keep in mind that they are geared more for sales to retailers and distributors than individuals.

Try back in a couple of weeks for the FR-8, at lease that is what they told me. Also, try product RI143-GI and RI143-PI for the FR-8's there seems to be a mix up in the catalog/computer.

That's what they told me too. I also tried both part numbers and had my "new" rep go in the back to see if there were ANY FR-8's in the place. No dice on both accounts. Ugh !

Guess I'll give them another try after the first of the month. Rep did say that they just received huge shipments the last two days though. Of what, I don't know.
