Cool little rifle, ain't it? They do tend to talk back a little bit, though.

I love mine! Great trunk gun, and you can't beat it out of shape. Sturdy as a Castillian hooker!

Will one of you guy's crash through the wall of hype about FR-8 "brittle receivers, etc, etc. Are they all good to go, or should you run away from certain ones?
Thanks
Mike

The FR-8 is based on the famous large ring Mauser 98 action and is good to go as long as it's in good condition. Check the headspace. It's the FR-7 that you want to run away from. Well not really but they are based on the small ring action and I wouldn't shoot 7.62x51 in mine if I had one.

The FR-7 was made from what were basically 1893 Mausers (Spain's Model 1916) chambered in 7mm Mauser (7x57), which are not as strong as the FR-8, which was made from 1898 Mausers (Spain's Model 1943) chambered in 8mm Mauser (8x57).

The Spanish had a cartridge called the 7.62 CETME, which was basically a 7.62 NATO loaded to a lower pressure, with a 125 grain bullet, that was intended to be used in the FR-7 and a few other designs.

FR-8's are fine for .308 if in good shape!

The rifles were both modified by adding a "CETME Modelo C" barrel and other tuff and cutting down existing wood.

It is my humble opinion that no fr-8 is safe however as I am a humanitarian please send these defective rifles to me so that I may do my part to save the world from the evils of this unsafe rifle.

Really though, Hilljack have a good time at the range with yours. the rest of you can contact me by E-mail and I will provide you with an address to dispose of these unsafe weapons ;)
