What type of tool is needed to remove the action from the stock on the M/N? I have a Russian M44 and a Finn M39. I want to give them a good cleaning but can't figure out where to buy the tool.

Brownell's sells them for the Mauser, but nothing for the M/N.

What is the proper term for these cross bolts, are they tang bolts? Where can I find a set of various sized tools for takedown?

I use a couple of 1/16" dia. dowel pins or coiled spring pins. I insert them into the crossbolt nut, then clamp down on them both with a pair of vice-grip pliers and unscrew the thing. Never needed to buy the tool. Good luck.

Also...if you don't know already, the only way to remove the barrel band retaining springs from the stock is by poking them out from the other side with a 3/64" punch. Prying them out is a sure way to break 'em! By the way...anybody know where I can get a rear barrel band retaining spring for a 91/30?

I'm a little confused by the question. The crossbolt doesn't need to come out. Hold the trigger back to remove the bolt, remove the nosecap (on the M39) and the barrel bands, then remove the two action screws from the bottom. That's it.

Admittedly I posted this question before attempting a takedown. I automatically assumed (i know) that the crossbolt has to come out. I will give it a try tonight.
