Anybody else heard of the Russian captured K98s that are up for highest bidder in Eastern Europe?
Let's just hope that a Canadian group doesn't get the winning bid for this lot of what is reported to be "thousands and thousands" of collectible Mausers.

Be warned I have seen several Russian K98's. The Russians didn't keep these in very good shape..They also like to mark them up with electric pencil.

The Russians didn't keep these in very good shape
Even so..these may be a good starting point for project rifles, assuming the price is right!

They tended to knock the eagles off with punches.
They could be arsenal rebuilds also.
I got a Luger some years ago from Russia. Refinished dark parking with crossed arrows to show that it was redone. Fairly nice gun for the price.

I really like my Russian K98 capture. Other than having no Waffenmarks its a great rifle.

Supposedly refurbed, much like the 91/30's and M-38's. I hope that they didn't paint the K98's with the black paint....

Most likely mismatched, Russian marked, and having peened waffens, but overall should be in better shape than the Yugoslavian K98s (not M47, M48, etc.) that are floating around.
For a GREAT deal on a K98, get yourselves a Yugo Preduzece 44 K98 -- postwar K98s, the one I received is still packed in heavy cosmoline and brand spankin' new, a brand new K98!!!, deep, deep bluing, matching serial numbers (forced on mag floorplate and stock) and waffens as a bonus! Bought it from Ellison's back in December.

I bought one of the East german K98's that were floating around several years back. Big 5 had them on sale for $89.00.
The intent was a project gun since the rifle overall was only fair.
The waffenamts are peened off, no matching #'s, bore is dark, finish mostly gone, stock looks like it was carried through some pretty nasty times.
I got it out last night and looked it over real well and...She desrves to stay as is, if it could talk!
I think the Russian capture guns will probably be the same.

There is word of a large lot for sale in Germany. I got this from Tuco. If they are as nice as the ones Century imported a few years ago I will buy a couple.
BTW I have a few of the imported Kar98k with all markings intact. So not all were peened out like we have been seeing the last few years.
