Does anyone know if they are chrome lined? How do they shoot, do you like it?
Interested in one just need a little more info. :D You know how it is.

I have a 551 preban and a 556. All I can say is that they run like an AK (that is they always run - never had a hiccup) and they are as accurate (with good ammo 62 grain or heavier) as an AR (I have several).

I think that they are the best buy in a black rifle right now.

As far as the barrel goes they are not chrome lined, they are nitrided. This is a surface treatment like tenefer on a Glock. It makes the barrels harder than chrome. It also is not a coating so it does not adversely affect accuracy. It is also supposed to be more corrosion resistant than chrome.

At any rate, I can't see you going wrong with one of the new ones.

All the best.

I have an earlier 556 rifle and a 556P converted to an SBR. I'm really happy with both. Based on this experience, I too am interested in the 551-A1 but have yet to see one locally (and I'm 30 miles from the factory...maybe I need to go over to the SigAcademy Pro Shop). I'd like to handle one before buying (either locally or online).

Congrads on considering a SIG, this is my favorite, an early model. P-Mags work really good, and it eats green tip all day long!

I like the 522 also.
