Well,

About 10 years ago I paid $1k less for an A2 NIB, so for me thats not an attractive price.

That is great, but this isn't 2002, it is 2012...

Dawg180,

I understand the date, and figured someone savvy enough to post would know that there were two companies that made AUG A2 clones in the past 3-5 years that could be had under $2k and Steyr now sells an AUG A3 for less than $2.5k.

Hope that helps to show you clearly that these A1 are overpriced, and not attractive to me.

Clones don't count. I paid $1900.00 last February for my Steyr A3 which less than 1860 were built with the Sabre defence recievers. I turned down $3000.00 cash 2 weeks ago for mine. I just can't replace it for that right now.
Hopefully Steyr will begin production in a few months(according to them at the shot show) with someone building their recievers. Rumor has it Colt,FN,or Daniel Defence. Those will sell new for $2295.00.
3450 is steep but if the economy turns around, the value will go up very fast! Either way it will continue to increase in value as only 5000 were imported and I don't see that changing. It is also becoming more popular as people play games like COD and like the futuristic looks appeal to them.
On the plus side if these don't sell soon the prices will come down per the Lotus rep.

Well I brought home a New A1 yesterday. 905 series, roller bolt carrier, closed end flash hider. I took an print out from the steyr-aug.com website written by Pete Athens whom I bought my A3 from last year. It tells how to determine if an AUG is in fact NIB.
This one was!
I called Pete and he told me what a steal would be on the rifle. I made the offer and they took it. I'm a Happy Camper. I really wanted an A1 when I bought my A3. I do not plan on shooting it for a few years......but we'll have to see how that goes.

I like the rail on the A3, gives me a lot of latitude for mounting different optics.
I'm thinking the smallest, most compact red dot. I like the SPARC, it comes with a 2X doubler for that little extra magnification, and several different mounting bases.
