View Full Version : CZ 58 paint color?

October 03, 2011, 08:40
I just got a like new CZ (VZ) 58 parts kit made in 1960. The parts are covered in a grey paint that looks like epoxy or other coating.
Does anyone know what paint was used or what product today would match the paint on this kit?
Thank you.

Lauer sells a DuraBake enamel in the color "VZ2000" that they claim matches the original finish.

I've seen quite a few of the VZ58 kits dated from 1960 to the mid-70s, and the original paint varies somewhat, darker to lighter and bluer to grayer, so I don't know what they finally settled on for this paint.

I have a can of it, but haven't gotten around to using it yet (on the receiver for a like-new 1975 kit)...

Eventually, I'll probably get there... :)

Edited to spell 'DuraBake' right...

I used the VZ2000 paint mentioned above. It was a perfect match for mine. I only had to paint the receiver and not mess with the other parts. The paint as is, is flat. So I ordered their clear gloss, which made it a bit too glossy. A touch with 0000 steel wool got it just right. When I say "a touch" I mean just that. Almost no pressure while brushing it. I first did all my testing on a well used mag.

Century still sells them:

Also, I see ORF receivers for auction up on GB from time to time.
