Was he set up.....the FBI does not seem to think so.

"Anthony V. Mangione, who has served as the high-profile leader of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for South Florida, was arrested Tuesday after child pornography was reportedly found on his home computer in Parkland last spring.

In April, Mangione was put on paid administrative leave during an FBI investigation into four images of child pornography that he allegedly received via an AOL e-mail account, the Miami Herald reported at the time.

Mangione, 50, has led ICE's regional office since July 2007, and served in South Florida for a decade over the course of his 27-year law enforcement career.

As the chief law enforcement officer for ICE, he was often the agent before the news cameras when the agency announced the arrests of people trafficking child pornography.

The Broward Sheriff's Office website showed he was being held Tuesday afternoon at the main jail in Fort Lauderdale on unspecified charges. He is expected to have his first appearance Wednesday in federal court in Fort Lauderdale.

An ICE spokesman in Washington, D.C. could not immediately be reached for comment. Neither could Mangione's attorney."

4 images is all? I am betting he was set up.

I cant imagine a child porn addict only having 4 images, and using an AOL account lol

John I would have to agree with you on this. They just got a guy here locally with over a thousand images on his computer. I also dout that he would have used an AOL account that cold be tracked so easy.

I tend to agree.

Knowing how folks are these days, it might have been a picture of (gasp!) his granddaughter in the bathtub or naked on a bear skin rug.

LOL. I can't define the difference between cute and puerile, but I know it when I see it.

But you see, this is how his career is screamingly ground to a halt. Have an operator email someone an email that as soon as you click on it, it downloads itself without you being able to remove it.

Most people do not know how to wipe a drive, wipe free space, or actually get rid of something that is on a drive. he should have immediately contacted someone in his office and his upper level managers to investigate because the trail exists unless they used an elite operator; then there is nothing to find.

Any computer connected to the internet can have stuff like this put onto it,from outside sources. I have no doubt whatsoever the technology and capability exist, and this case is proof. He did something wrong,or did something right, that somebody didn't like.

If just 4 images, I agree this is a set-up and that charges will likely be dismissed, as will this agent. He will not be able to get an LE job after this, most likely, even though many abusive thugs in LE manage to do so. Kiddie porn just stinks too bad for anyone to let him back in the door.

Such is the power of child porn, seems the poor guy was deep into it. This guy had to be nuts to do this...shocking. Did he not know the technology available to trip him up??

The former Miami chief of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was sentenced to nearly six years in prison and 20 years of supervised release on Friday after pleading guilty to Internet child-pornography charges.

In court on Friday, Anthony Mangione did not say why he started viewing child pornography, the Sun-Sentinel reported from West Palm Beach.

"I’m pretty much a broken guy," Mangione told U.S. District Judge Kenneth Marra. "I feel like I’m in a hole eight feet deep with six feet of dirt on top."

According to court documents, Mangione, 52, who led the fight to hunt down child-porn suspects, was caught sending pictures of children engaging in sex after AOL detected the images and contacted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

He also created several AOL email accounts and screen names such as BookStoreMomNC and OldrMom11 to send the pornographic images, and he emailed pictures to a former school bus driver in Delaware between March and September 2010.

Four days after the images were detected by Mangione’s Internet provider, he left for a seminar in Portugal and learned of sites that people who engage in child pornography used to wipe their computers clean. He later installed wiping software on his personal computer and erased his own evidence.

Investigators found a dozen computers and 16 cellphones when they searched Mangione’s Parkland home in April 2011. Soon after, Mangione retired from ICE after being sent on administrative leave.
