View Full Version : Question about DSA scope mount return to zero...

So when you remove/replace your DSA mount with the optic mounted how close does it return to zero?
In my case I'm using an Aimpoint M2, 4 moa.
I took the mount off because I've decided to run my para with irons only
most of the time. It just feels better that way.
However if I go pig hunting when it cools off I'd like to use the Aimpoint
and I might not have time to go to the range and re-zero, so I was curious
as to how much shift in zero I could expect.
I'm guessing that since I'm using a 4moa dot I won't know the difference and it will still be close enough inside 100 yds or so.
Thanks in advance,

Sorry to sidestep your threaad a bit, but I've been meaning to ask.
Does the DSA mount not clear the irons when installed.?

Yes you can use the iron sights without an optic mounted while the DSA mount is in place.

Cool, I was hoping it would, thanks.

I've taken my DSA mount off and reinstalled again with little loss of zero at 100 yds. I use an EOTech w/ 1 moa center. I would think you should be good with 4 moa. Just my personal experience.

EMSflyer, why remove the scope mount? I have one on my para and I just leave it on. It's not that hard to clean the rifle with the mount in place.
Just wondering.

My DSA mount goes back on with no change of zero. If you use the same tightening sequence every time, criss-crossing like you would tighten a car tire. A little at a time. Make sure all the locking plates are securely in the grooves before tightening, else they WILL break.
I convert between standard and para and do like the handling of the para without the DSA mount, it just feels better. But overall, I just leave it on and remove the para tab from the mount when I convert to standard.
About once every few years I remove the mount for a thorough cleaning, but it's not really necessary.
Until you make sure of your own mount, it's beat to verify the return to zero yourself.

Thank you - at last, somebody else who does it the smart ( or maybe lazy ;) :D way !!!
That said, I agree that FALs feel much better without the mount - the dang DSA may be rock solid, but it is WAAAAAY heavy, IMHO.
I've been successfully using two of the scarce Grenadier Precision mounts which are much lighter - however, my feeling is it should be limited to pretty light optics, as the mount is aluminum and does not get extra support by telescoping the receiver rails on the exterior .

Don't get me wrong. I've only removed the mount once and only once to change out one of the plates. Other than that, it never gets taken off.;)

I agree the DSA mount is heavy and would love to find a lighter one.
Any suggestions?
