I traveled quite a bit last weekend around the southern part of my state. Rural is a good description for part, 'remote' barely cuts it for the other.
Watched a kid's soccer game, wherein the ball went over the fence and into the road. City police cruiser pulls over, and the officer gets out of the car, runs the ball down, and punts it back over the fence. Waves, says "Your welcome" to the people thanking him, and drives off.
My head almost exploded. And I was wondering when the Twilight Zone music was going to cue. Outstanding interaction that I wasn't (directly) part of.
Second interaction = I got pulled over by a state trooper. Said I was going 50 in a 35. I was. He asked for my info. I gave him registration and insurance, and told him that my license was with my wallet on a plane somewhere in the Delta system. I told him I could give him a CCW permit with photo, or my passport. He took the passport and said, "We'll get this figured out."
He asked me if I had weapons in the car. I answered with, "Lots." He nodded and turned for his car.
Came back and told me to be careful, as the transition to 45 was further ahead than I thought. Told me to watch for deer and antelope as the evening was coming on. I told him thanks, and that I'd be careful.
Professional, not friendly but not uncool in any way. Got a warning on a dead-to-rights speeding/revenue opportunity. Then I knew I was in the twilight zone.
Anyway, my last two or three interactions have been nothing but excellent. Thought I'd throw that out there.
