Trying to make the Local (kinda local) monthly 3-Gun matches a reg thing..
Today was Match day (3'rd Sat of ea mo) and I decided WTF, I'm gonna run the VZ-58 and see how it does..
We had 5 stages in all (3/Rifle stages) and Man I was friggin THRILLED with the VZ.. It ran great, sights are dialed in and I had a blast with this rifle.. Did run into a glitch in the Middle of one stage as the Nut that holds the spring and folding mechanism together inexplicably loosened and FELL OFF in the middle of a stage.. Man that pretty much fugged me up on that stage as I was worried about loosing the parts (they were recovered by LOADED05 :whiskey: ) but once the stock got wobbly and one mag diidn't LOCK in I was toast.. :(

Oh well, I got shit squared away and shot another rifle stage after that and all was well.. The Rifle is really easy to shoot and it appears as though I have it dialed in pretty well.. Wanting to really test her out I loaded 3-diff ammo types and went sop far as to mix them up in the Mags.. Figured I'd find out fer sher how this gun functions and I must say I'm quite fuggin impressed..
Using a MIX of BARNAUL, FNM, & SAKO 7.62X39 she functioned perfectly aside from ONE mag that would NOT lock in but that was a MAG issue I "SHOULD" have found before the Match and I rectified that with a Few File strokes as soon as I got home..
If you guy;s are shootin any matches ya GOTTA give the VZ-58 a Go, I have a feeling you'll be glad ya did.. :shades:

Great news to see it runs so well Dynomike. Did you put new handguards and a pistol grip on it? It looks great!

Is that loose nut, not the one shooting:biggrin: , going to get a bit of Loc-Tite ?
Or, will you need it again as an excuse next match.

Just kiddin'.

Looks like fun DYNOMIKE.

Yea when I first had it built the Plastic/Bakelite furniture was on it.. It looked fine but the stock just didn't seem to fit me right.. Since I had the folder already (bought it with the kit) I figured I'd swap out the folder and see if I liked that better? No explanation really but I do like it better with the folder as somehow it's more comfortable.
I left it like that for a bit then had a Good Bud gave me a full set of the original VZ-58 wood furniture. The wood is really nice, looks much better then the bakelite so I installed all but the stock which is of course how the rifle is now set up.

LOL, your prolly right on both counts most of the time..

YUP, I took care of the problem last night after I got home, unloaded, and got most everything put away..I used brake wash to clean the threads on the locking pc as well as the nut then applied a single drop of Blue Loctite and reassembled.

The offending nut should be GTG and take away at least one more excuse for having a shitty stage.. :p

The "offending" Nut prior to the Loctite....

Nice pics, man! I love the VZ-58. I have one setup with a rail and light as a home defense carbine.

Yours looks great with the wood furniture on it. Very nice!

Thanks Bud,
I really like this rifle especially after actually using it fer sumpthin besides punchin paper..
It handles great, quick to point, and plenty accurate.. Think I'm gonna shoot it in another match with it but will prob wait a match or two cause I want to use something else next time. Thinking the TANTAL might be fun..

Cool on the wood furniture, I wasn't really sure how I would like it at first but I'm pretty pleased with how it came out. I even like the way the stock feels better then the full stock which was a big surprise to me.

Ya know I hadn't thought of having this rifle as a home defense piece but I think your on to something there..
If ya don't mine post up a PIC if ya would, I like to see it..

The local "toy" store has a couple of those CZs on their racks with the folders like yours.
They are a bit short for me but otherwise are VERY nice.
I kind of hope they don't stick around too long.
They are awfully tempting and I am SO weak.:uhoh:

I hated the standard stock & truth be told I didn't think I would like the folder at all.. It is "short" no doubt but somehow it just seems to work? Got no explanation really because I expected it to just be awful..
Thankfully though it's not and I'm glad cause it's a fuggin FUN little rifle..

LOL, I know what ya mean about exercising self control so I think you should just go buy it... There are times it's just futile ya know....

I bought a couple kits when centerfire systems was selling them for $89, with 4 mags and pouches. Got a folder and fixed stock.

Makes me want to get them built, who sells recievers for those babies?

Found this >> http://www.czechpoint-usa.com/products/spare-parts-and-accessories/vz-58-parts-and-accessories/vz58-stripped-receiver-accepts-30-round-magazines/

$350 ain't bad.

Check this stuff out Mike >> http://www.czechpoint-usa.com/products/spare-parts-and-accessories/vz-58-parts-and-accessories/?list=5

Even though I think the ORF receiver is going to be fine, If I had it to do all over again I would prolly go with a CZ Receiver.. I think it's just a better piece all around. Nope $350.00 aint bad at all and you really "should" buy one and build the rifle. I think you would be impressed..

Man why did you show me that friggin stock?! :p
With that stock and PG the rifle would look quite a bit diff but I bet it would fit a lot better too....

This is an old pic, I need to take a new one showing the light mount setup I have on it and the single point sling.

I have VTAC light mount with a Surefire G2 mounted on the left side of the rifle.

from homelandprotector$350 ain't bad.

If you already have ALL your compliance parts, I guess not.
The local shop is $ 449 ?(I'm pretty sure) for the ready to go rifle.
Plus, 7% worth of local sales taxes.

You might be better off to pick one of the assembled rifles and sell your parts kit.
Unless you really NEED to build something.:uhoh:

Nice gun. So is that a Century gun with an ORF receiver, or a real Czechpoint gun built in the old country? GARY N4KVE

What are the straight stocked ones going for nowadays? I have been wanting to get one, but without scratch enough to do it I have been putting it off....I kinda doubt that anyone would want to do any horse trading for one.

Got one a few weeks ago. Haven't touched any of my other guns since then. Accurate, fast handeling, dependable. Not to mention its pretty cheap to shoot.

I like the fixed butt. Bought the folder because it was really cheap and it was there. Can't believe how nice that folder is even now. Just goes to show that you just can't judge a butt by it's picture. Who wouda thunk that those wire AK folders would be as nice as they are? IMHO the CZ folder looks even weirder but is actually much nicer than the AK folders.
