They did a year-long study on 341 officer killings by firearms. Cliff notes results:
107 killers acquired their firearms legally, more than by any other means
77 killers stole their guns
51 officers killed with their own weapons or another officer's weapon
46 guns "borrowed" or taken from relatives
41 guns bought "on the street"
16 straw purchases, of which fewer than half were prosecuted
3 gun show purchases, and two of those were illegal sales by FFLs
More than 200 of the shooters were felons, and 45 of those were on parole or probation.
