The time has come to test computer malevolence in a tangible way,,, to hell with embargoes, either you got it or you don't, it's way past time.
Who ever can control the computers of the world will control the world in my opinion, computers do all the things we won't, don't or can't do.
A thought, how many computer Geeks will abide any regime, join any religion or cult to protect their obsession to compute?

This IS possible but from the details unearthed from reverse engineering efforts and my experience in the "industry"; unlikely without a specific target in focus.

Profibus is the protocol being targeted.

Ubiquitous?

Yes.

I remain guardedly skeptical, but that could change . . .

The delivery mechanism suggested (USB Jump Drive) indicates that those authoring such an attack are patient and have all the time in the world to implement this - who fits that ticket?

Something like this might push them back into the 13th Century.

Let's just hope someone doesn't beat us to the punch and use something like on us first....

Computers are a level playing field. If we can develop it, they probably can too.

Stay tuned.

Ubiquity requires a presence in more than one era of time,,, 21st, 13th and 7th centuries,,, to spoil it for everyone for all time,,,Muslims are doing the work fallen angels won't do.

Seems like the only things a civilized society trips over of late is related to Islam or socialism for some reason.

I'm damn tired of it.

Bang a gong!!

(While I still can offer some "banging").

This may be slightly profound. Or blatantly obvious depending if it just got pointed out to me. I'll get back to you. ;) I ain't always the quickest.

Don't let your head get too deep into this "rabbit hole" or you will start thinkin' like *them*.

Livin' a real life is more important.

(just a thought . . .)

Actually the worm is going after WinCC and not Profibus. WinCC integrates and provides a control point with PLCs and other industrial controllers (primarily Siemens).

Imagine a worm that can get into a system like that and potentially force every output on every PLC to turn on regardless of the PLCs program? The potential loss of life and damage to equipment and facilities could be large.

Iran is having a helluva time trying to get control back lol

We test for that exact state condition in our processes. And we make sure there are enough engineered in safeguards and dumb mechanicals to make sure Armageddon isn't brought about by a PLC that has a stroke. Because they do have them sometimes.
