An Alachua county, FL deputy was dispatched to dispatch a deer hit by a car. He proceeded to shoot the beast 17 times without the desired effect. The deer eventually bled out, possibly from the trama of the vehicle impact. Don't know what this says about the overall training of the areas LEO's but my quess is if this cop doesn't have a nickname, he does now. Something like 'One Shot One Kill Jones'. http://www.gainesville.com/article/20100915/ARTICLES/100919623/1118?Title=Trying-to-kill-injured-deer-deputy-shoots-it-16-times

Had to have been a city borne or carpet bagger, cuz some one local to the Gainesville area not only would have been able to dispatch that dear cleanly but would have skinned and cleaned it too. Also the fact that the officer is upset by it and talking to a vict. advocate shows he is a big sissy boy too.

Seems like, after taking 17 non-lethal rounds, the deer needs the victim's advocate, not Ol' Deadeye...:rofl:

My sis used to have to cap elk in Colorado after car hits. She sez the old .38 was lame,took multi hits before kicking ceased. 9mm put them out much quicker.

If he had the two round extension on the end of his mag, there would have been 19 holes in the deer! Good thing the deer didn't return fire :D :D

I don't care if you're packing a .500 S&W mag. If you empty 17 rounds into the stomach, it's not going to be very effective at a swift, merciful death.

"An Alachua County sheriff’s deputy who wanted to put a deer that had been hit by a car out of its misery Wednesday morning fired 17 shots into its stomach before the animal finally died, the Sheriff’s Office reported."

Stomach != vital area.

Was that supposed to be stomach does not equal vital area?

Yes. Stomach does not equal a vital area.

While it will kill the target, it might take up to 24 hours in some cases.

Rather surprised that his training did not cover how to dispatch an injured animal. As this happened in Florida, I am also rather surprised that an armed bystander didn't step up and put the deer down with a pop between the critter's eyes.
