Yes our robots can compete with the Chinese, but not our workers no matter what our currency imbalance/correction and lowering standard of living.

Sounds like the US in 1890. They will eventually evolve. How long that takes? Who knows...

the Chinese are finding out right now:-) under globalization mfging labor moves to the country offering the lowest cost per unit produced - protectionism through taxation is coming - the only winners under the current system are the multinational stockholders and the countries elite that provide the slave labor - the consuming countries that trade mfg for cheap walmart shit end up gutting their middle class and destroy their economies - lucky us - we get to watch it real time:-)

well, they may not be moving there but they sure as hell are kicking the IMFs ass regarding rebuilding war torn nations in return for access to natural resources - and yes, they bring all their own ppl and products (75% of investment) to do it - they do hire local labor for the grunt work.

Just wait - this is coming. First, I suspect they'll stay a bit closer to home and work on exploiting the middle east (there is already movement towards creating economic ties with Iran in the manufacturing sector).

First it was the Japanese. We can't compete against them, we are done.
When labor got too expensive in Japan it was the Koreans. Yep, we are done now for sure.
When labor got too expensive in Korea, it was Mexico. Yep, we are done. Stick a fork in our rear.
Now that labor is cheaper in China than Mexico we are really done for.
Right, you can always go down and get a manufacturing job at the TV factory....I mean computer factory.....I mean furniture factory......I mean textile factory........machine tool factory.......washing machine factory.......steel mill,,,,, garment industry.........
You are right, we are really done.

The Japanese and the Koreans were never a major threat to us. They are too small and lack the necessary natural resources. China, on the other hand has the size - geographically and population wise combined with the natural resources to really be big time threat.
Chinese culture is inherently entrepeneurial - they have industrialized at a rate that is simply staggering

But they rarely invent anything. Most everything they make is a knock-off of something else.

Keeps their costs down that way. Why spend money for R&D when someone else is. They are a patient people, they will wait a little while then jump on something when it is no longer brand new. There is no way they could have invented the blue-ray players, but I would bet 90% of them now are manufactured in China.

predicting china's decline is as easy as 1, 2, 3:
1) china is a massive communist welfare state with a billion uneducated Chinese peasants
2) after decades of population control china’s population (unreplenished by lots of Chinese babies) is aging faster than the baby boomers.
3) chinese exporters operate on very low margins and will suffer as western imports decline due to our own economies slowing down.
just like everybody else china's expenses are rising faster than their income. how will china compete when they burn the factories to the ground in the cultural revolution #2?

Compared to whom? The Chinese have Medicare, Welfare, Disability, Checks for pooping out babies, SS, Pell Grants, Presciption Drug Plan, $70K/year Drug Cocktails for Aids Patients, Prisons overflowing with the unproductive, Cash for Clunkers, Anchor Babies for Bennies, $8000 Home Buyer Tax Credits, Fannie and Freddie....fill us in??
2) after decades of population control china’s population (unreplenished by lots of Chinese babies) is aging faster than the baby boomers.
None of whom is entitled to anything but a shove into the ditch. Tell that to our aging population when they discover that SS, Medicare, Fed/State/City and Private pensions are all insolvent.
3) chinese exporters operate on very low margins and will suffer as western imports decline due to our own economies slowing down.
At least they produce useful products and not toxic financial schemes that self destruct which we flood the world with.

Right, just like the unarmed, starving North Koreans have tossed out their commie regime.
As always, you miss the point. Life is cheap in China. When that is the case, problems with people get resolved very quickly.
Examine our failed 50 year War on Drugs vs Mao's very short and very successful version. :uhoh:

Does China have a porn industry? At least maybe we still out-produce them in that...
