Hello Guys,

I hope I am posting this into the right forum.

I have several used Shotgun and Rifle Barrels that need a new home.

My problem is that I have problems identifying several and absolute no idea what they are worth.

Please let me know if you need more information or pics.

I count on your knowledge and honesty. :)

Thank you for looking and helping.
RC

Well, I'm not an expert on many of these either, but #17 and #20 appear to be Mauser 98, and #18 is a pre-64 Winchester Model 70. It looks like you've already done a good job identifying most of the shotgun barrels.

Unfortunately, loose barrels have very little abstract "value" except to the fellow who needs one for a current (or future) restoration or repair project. Hence the best way to get top dollar for these parts is to get as much exposure as possible for them, and let the market decide value. I would say your best bet would be to list them all on GunBroker or AuctionArms, either individually or in small lots of 2 to 4 similar barrels together. The name brands (Winchester, Remington, Franchi, etc) may sell better individually, but the off-brands (Wards, FF, etc) could take a long time so bundling sometimes helps move them faster. List them on the auction site with no reserve and a low starting price ($40 to $80), and set the auction to automatically re-list if it doesn't sell during the standard 7-day cycle. If an item doesn't sell after four cycles reduce the price by 25% and repeat until it sells.

When listing the items, don't forget to allow for shipping costs; I've found that most buyers prefer to know the shipping charge up front ( allow $20 for a single barrel), rather than getting a surprise after winning the auction. Also, given the number of barrels you have, be certain to procure a sufficient quantity of sturdy shipping boxes or tubes and packing materials in advance. Loose barrels have a nasty habit of poking through the ends of improvised or substandard packaging, and the extra trouble is worthwhile in order to prevent returns due to shipping damage. Triangular shipping tubes provided free by UPS or the Post Office can be used, but will need substantial re-enforcement on the ends to prevent penetration and internally to prevent crushing. I prefer to use heavy-duty cardboard tubes with fabricated wood or heavy plastic plugs on the ends, but your mileage may vary.

Best of luck with you sales.
