This morning I got a phone call from my FFL I been waiting for since last week.
Went straight to the range. I followed the proper procedure from DSA website how to break in the new barrel. So far 50 trouble free rounds.

BTW, the prefix on the receiver reads "SA58" not "STG58"???
This particular rifle is in the 40,000 serial # range.
Here is my new FAL next to the loveseat:love:

Nice looking FAL. Take it to the range quickly, and post a range report. Mine is still back at DSA. I keep waiting for them to return it.

All DSA reciever will be marked as SAXXXXX you can not go by the reciever to determine if the rifle is an STG or SA.

Which DSA FAL rifle you have? Could you please tell me what kind of problems you had with it?
Thanks.

I own two DSA rifles one Tactical Carbine (SA58) from during the ban era so no flash hider and I also own a STG-58 purchased in Nov of 2006 delivered Feb of 2007.

The major differences were the lower receiver and barrels between the two but after the barrel ban went into effect the lower is the only real difference. The STG should come with metal hand guards as well. The problem now is that DSA is running out of STG part and have begun to substitute different parts in there place such as using inch firing pins that have been modified to fit metric rifles.

As far as my rifles I have not encountered any problem though I have not shot the STG very much I just wanted a STG before DSA ran out of parts as The STG were considered some of the best rifles put out.

Nice looking SA58 how long have you been waiting for it? And one more thing I have to ask what were you and your SA doing with that love seat? :D

My STGc came with plastic handguards, not metal. That was several years ago.

16" Para with Picatinny rail. The bolt shattered after about 10 rounds.

So, take it to the range quickly, and run a couple hundred rounds through it.

@dobe,

are you serious?
Do you have pictures? I really want to see that!
Is it DSA SA58 bolt or STG58 bolt?

Kubura,

I bought the same DSA STG58 and picked it up last January after waiting nine months. I have run around 400 rds. through it with no problems. I did however lose the lug retaining pin on the cocking handle assembly the first time out at the range. You'll see what i'm talking about on page 58, fig.74 of the FN book DSA shipped with your rifle. I wasn't going to send the rifle back to DSA and instead ordered some replacement pins on DSA's website. It only cost a few dollars a came back within a week. I'd keep an eye on it though as I think I've read others here have had the same thing happen. Other than that, I think it's a great rifle. I was expecting the metal handguards on my STG but was pleasantly surprised to find their synthetic handguards installed. I'm guessing the metal guards are getting hard to find. I just installed an EOTech with a quick detach mount. BTW, did DSA send you the sling also?

Kidd,

Do a search somewhere here on the files. Someone posted a picture already. IIRC, the DSA rep said that the early US-made bolts were not heat treaded correctly, hence broken pieces.

I found it! Check out the DSA forum.

I'll find the link where I did post pictures, and it is more than the bolt breaking that caused the problem. I'm guessing the gas port was enlarged. It didn't matter how I adjusted it, the bolt would function until it finally broke after about 10 rounds

Edited to provide link requested. Sorry for the quality of pictures. I shot them with my phone, while at my gunsmith.

The SA58 I bought a few weeks ago also had one of those slings in the case. Maybe it is SOP to include a sling with all guns now. I take it your gun did not come with a sling last January?

Mine doesn't have metal hand guards. I haven't disassembled the bolt yet; I hope not to find a modified firing pin. Thanks for the info.

Sorry to hear that.

I run 50 trouble-free rounds so far, and hope it stays that way.

Well no big lose with the handguards, most people changed out there handguards right away as I did. I wonder if there going to be able to continue to sell the STG line as it seems that they are nearly out of STG parts to assembly these guns with.

Mine came with a synthetic handguards installed, and a sling.
I know about the lug retaining pin, so I bought couple of 5/64" roll-pins, just in case.
