Few minutes ago on Fox News a congressman from Arizonia reported that the government is paying $1500 a truck protection money on our convoys in Afganistan. Seems the government found it cheaper to just pay the Taliban than to put troops out protecting the convoys. Time to get out, NOW.

(CNSNews.com) - Some of the $2 billion in U.S. taxpayer funds spent on a Defense Department contract for the private security of “vital” U.S. military supplies in Afghanistan may be making its way to the Taliban as “protection payments for safe passage,” a House investigative report found.
The State Department confirmed that the Taliban continues to receive “protection money” when asked about the House report, which includes December 2009 testimony from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Clinton told a Senate panel, “one of the major sources for the Taliban is the protection money” for safe passage of U.S. supply convoys.
“Taliban continues to extort protection money as a source of revenue just like via the opium trade,” Darby Holladay, a spokesman for the State Department, the government agency that oversees U.S. civilian forces in Afghanistan, told CNSNews.com.

Those Taliban boys is some bad-ass dudes.
Would be good to have them on our side for a change.
Well, it seems they are on our side. I suppose they will kill just enough Americans to keep the money comming in though. Kill some Americans then ask for more protection money. Seems to me whomever is running this war needs to be at the end of a rope.

The taliban ain't too smart. If they all took the next 18 months off to go home, beat their wives, sire the next generation of zealots, and give interviews to Al Jeezera about the evils if the west, we'd leave and they could have the whole place to themselves. Of course, it would result in an impact to their cash flow. That alone may prove too great a temptation to just suspend operations. I'm pretty sure too the ones we've put in power locally and at a national level despise the thought of us leaving and taking our money and material with us. Crap, what they gonna' do when the DirecTV box takes a notion to go on the fritz?

I can think of a few good ways to load those stacks of hundred dollar bills with tracking emmiter devices AND some seriously deviant substances that make you quite sick.
Some stacks would be allowed to travel a good while and when a whole province glows with dots, them bring in the B-52's and do a carpet bombing. No harm in that as civilians would not be holding Taliban cash.
Might even supply some playboy mags, similarly loaded.
Maybe even some cans of peaches and what ever goods they need. Might shorten the war significantly. Maybe even some stingers that circle back to take out the user....Or some of those bad mortar shells that blow up immediately and some cases of grenades with instant fuses too. Leave them in some camoflaged dumps, along with some 200 hour, time delay bombs.
Don't tell me that the ROE prevents this stuff? Breaking people and killing things or the reverse is always in style during war.
