Hi guys,

I have a Century L1A1 built with a Australian parts kit. I'm not to sure who or what made the receiver but it's an inch gun.

Now, I have had this rifle for years but have only shot it very few times due to the fact that I couldn't afford the ammo because I was a poor college student and all my funds went to my AR's. But here recently I've been shooting it more and more.

Here's the problem, the rifle functions like shit, the two original mags that came with the rifle are the only mags that will work. And when I say work I mean from rounds 1-16 and then it becomes a jam-a-thon. I have tried all sorts of different mags, other inch mags....no success....jam-a-thon, metric mags....no success.....bolt basically runs over the top of the rounds slightly marking them.

The first thing I tried was the Ghille Mod (I think this is correct name), it did help with feeding but the problem is still present.

Really I don't know where to go from here, I'm real hesitant to keep buying magazines that don't work. I will not sell firearms so I have to get this thing working. I want to love this rifle but I'm having a hard time doing so. Help me out guys, please!

Well, I see you took my advise and came over...Welcome to the Dark side....

The guys on this board are very knowledgeable, and helpful. Good luck with getting your problems corrected. I built my Stg58, but my corrent L1A1 is a Century, but fuctions correctly.

A description of the receiver markings would help to identify it and possibly give some direction to likely problems.

Check the feed ramps in front of the chamber. Do you have a left and right ranp with a peak in the center or one wide beveled ramp?

Century sometimes used a "two-piece gas piston" that should be replaced.

You should have the rifles headspace checked, Century is known to be very sloppy in this.

Read the thread Moson Guy kindly provided a link to. You should find some cures for your "bolt over" problems.

My Century was a problem child too.

The receiver has duel feed ramps.

As far as markings go, above the upper/lower pin there is what appears to be an upside down 2 and 9.

The receiver is marked:
Century Arms Inc
St Albans, VT
R1A1 Sporter 308 Cal
Made in the USA

The Serial #: 01-001**

The Gas Piston is a one piece system.

I'm going to run through the link provided above to see if I can tweak the gun a little.
