870 express age

inherited a remington 870 express in 20gauge, can anyone tell me the approximate date of manufacture by the serial #?

I think they have only been making the express model for 15 years or so. Somebody else will jump in with more specifics.

my wife bought a new remmy 870 express magnum a couple years ago, so I compared the #'s on the 2.

Hers has an extra letter on it, like

Go to the Remington site and get their 800 number for customer service. Call them with the serial# and they'll tell you when it was made. I've done that several times and they are very helpful.
