View Full Version : More P220 questions

Im getting into a 220 also and have questions not answered in the other P220 thread.
Does the 220 fit in a 226 holster? Do they use 1911 mags? If not do the after market MecGars work well. How is the accuracy compared to a 1911? I found one used but very clean for $565. Is that a decent price?

I shot a 220 in IDPA for a while after shooting a 226 - I do not recall but I think the 220 is not a good fit in a kydex holster that is fitted for the 226 - leather holster I recall did fit.

The 1911 mags do not fit - look close but no cigar.
I do not recall that Mecgar makes a 220 mag, but Novak does and they are better than Sig mags - ACT, I think is the same as Novak.

The 220 is very accurate and reliable - mine was a little pickier on ammo length than the 1911 but always reliable with the correct ammo.

My complaint on the 220 was a high bore axis which made perceived recoil harder. I went to a Glock 21 SF and it is only slightly better, but holds more rounds.

The 1911 is much more comfortable to shoot +P ammo in my opinion, but heavier. The 220 conceals well.

The 220 is an excellent pistol and I will get one again at some point - you can trust your life to it.

Mec-Gar does indeed make .45 ACP P220 magazines. I have two of them marked Mec-Gar and Made in Italy. They are virtually identical to the four zipper back factory mags that I have. They are stamped SigSauer P220 and they may well have been made by Mec-Gar like so many of the other Sig magazines.

And so it goes.

Mecgar does actually make the factory 220 mags for Sig. GARY N4KVE

I don't think you can actually buy Mec-Gar mags for the P220.
Mec-Gar is the OEM for Sig mags though.
You can get used original for pretty cheap here.

Or the Act/Novak mags

I have some P220 mags that are marked Mec-Gar. They aren't made that way anymore though.

My understanding is that Mec-Gar has made magazines for many gun makers, mostly European. Not always marked as made by Mec-Gar. Sometimes just marked as "Made in Italy".
They are sort of a generic brand of magazine manufacturers.
Fine product and excellent reputation though.
