Guys,

I've been having issues with my computer slow way down. Looks like 'system idle process' is doing it, particularly when I connect to network/internet.

I've recently cleaned the registry, defragged, etc.

Any ideas?

hi...
install ccleaner. ccleaner.com
run religiously after internet usage.
each time you go to internet; each page/image you see
and read is written to your hard drive.
ccleaner will delete temp files and clean up loose ends.

I would scan for spyware/adware and viruses.. That is the usual culprit when things grind to a crawl when you are on the net..

I have used CCleaner- works well but removes a little more than I want. I did notice that after I run the windows cleaner, CCleaner removes even more.

Got any suggestions for cleaning the disk? Wiping the previously used space in particular.

as def90 suggested; i'd run spyware/adware programs.
spend a little money and get Adware Away and RegCure.
You can get free version of AVG which is good.
After you've got your computer back running properly.
Do a defrag on the Hard Drive. That will consolidate files and clear
up blocks of space.

For advanced stuff: extra protection while on the internet.
get a cheap Linksys Router (hardware firewall) and run between providers
internet connection to your computer.

More advanced: consider downloading TOR; and run your computer through a series of proxy servers to provide additional firewalls.

just saying.

I had a problem like this recently.

Windows Media Player has a process that tries to sync up media across computers. Well, it will run incessantly and tie up you CPU resources while doing this.

See if you have some process running called somethink like WMP.
