How do you install the +2 mag bases on .40 cal mags and do you need the extra power springs? I couldn't find anything on Glock's website or Glockmeister.

The standard springs seem to work OK in my G26 with the +2 Glock extension.
I still went ahead and installed the "extra power" spring as a precaution.

I recommend that you buy the extra power spring and experiment.

The video below is Glock floorplate removal 101.
(On never-previously-disassembled mags it may be WAYYYY harder to squeeze the base of the mag than it looks in the vid.)

Word has it Santa is bringing me the GTUL floorplate tool this year.
Maybe another gimmick, but looks to me that its the shizzizz for those goddammitt-why-won't-you-move!!! floorplates we all encounter on our "first time."

OK, Gary, thanks. Maybe I can do this without accumulating any WECSOG points. But, I also didn't put my eye out the first time I changed a recoil spring in a FAL.

I used +2 mag bases on my g21 , till i dropped the mag on the hard floor ,, mag came completely apart.

I dont use them anymore after that , the bases are too big to take any abuse

my two cents

Same experience on my G17.Not worth it for 2 extra rounds.

Glock quit making the +2 mag bases years ago because people had the mag fall apart when bumped on the side while still in the pistol, or the afore metioned dropped. Simply not reliable enough for duty carry.

per "Butch" at http://glocktalk.com/forums/showpost.php?p=14733781&postcount=2
Early Glock +2 caps did not have a retainer in them and careless, forceful insertion of the magazine, or a sufficiently hard impact on another object could knock the extension off the mag, but the current + caps are much more secure and quite functional.

The old style is on the right:

My G27 wouild not feed the first round reliably from the mag w/ +2 with hot loads until I put a new spring in it. I later had the +2 extension come off when did a tactical reload and dropped the mag. I now carry a G27 mag in the gun and two G22 mags in case I have to reload. Figure my G27 replace a 5 shot .357 snub nose. I already start with double the rounds in the gun.

Might seem excessive but what about using clear nail polish or loc-tite on the floor plates, if you must have the floor plate it'd be a route to go.

Just looked at mine and glad to say I have the new style!:)

I have the original springs in mine and have not had a problem.

Mine is a G17 RTF2
