View Full Version : Available 5.56 FAL Variants?

I recently learned that apparently, over the years, several FAL-type rifles have been made that accept 5.56 AR mags, such as the Imbel MD2/MD3. Assuming that the quality of 5.56 FAL variants is good, I would love to have one of these rifles, as .308 ammo is awfully expensive.

So with that in mind...are any of these rifles currently available at [relatively] reasonable prices in the US? I did a Gunbroker search for MD2 and MD3 and came up dry. I then did a Google search and didn't get much farther.

well, not sure on current prices of an sar4800 in 223, but i'd imagine somewhere in the neighborhood of 1400 to 2k, depending on condition, box, whatever.
then ya gotta buy a real imbel para kit, that are no longer imported, so as to keep it 100 % imbel. then do a para cut to make it a real para, and not just a dustcover nose cut off wanna be.

oh, did i say my serial number is 1223 ?

kinda unique if i say so myself...
so what's a real imbel para kit going for nowadays ? 700 ?, 800 ?, more ? less ?
if iwas were to sell mine, i'd havta get no less than 3k.

but that's just me, others may want to come off their 1 of about 700 imported 223 fal's for less.

some say i devalued it by paraing it, and doing the para cut, as a collectable.
some say, yeah ! major cool factor. but i am sure deep down inside, most want a 223 fal para, as much as i did. i just had the balls to do it.

Did the ATR-1 ever become a real product? Reading on the website about "divorcing" Bobcat/SW, etc.
