An interesting point came up on the "Ammunition Forum." A good fellow and solid poster stated that +P .38 is 10% over standard pressure. (I'm paraphrasing deeply here and mean no disparagement to the original poster).

From the hand, I feel like the +P I've fired is hotter than that. After studying the Speer and Lyman manuals, I don't know what to think.

Sure, by definition, +P is 1500 PSI over (maximum) standard, or 17,000 PSI.

Yet, most factory loads look like they would be in the 10,000 PSI range, making most "+P" about 80% hotter. (That agrees with my "hand" much closer).

So, what gives?
