My God, what is wrong with me!?

I bought a M1895 Nagant revolver yesterday. 1939 Tula in pretty good shape. I put the revolver in my hand, close my eyes, brought the pistol up to eye level, and opened my eyes.

The sights were perfectly aligned.


Good Gawd! what the heck is wrong with me?? This clunky, butt-ugly revolver actually fits my hand! This ugly monstrosity, this pistol that has the double-action trigger pull that a gorilla can't pull back fits!


Oh well, I guess....the single action pull is a little heavy, but breaks pretty cleanly at about 6 pounds I would guess. I will have to give it a go and see how it shoots.

My buddy did the same thing not to long ago.....Dont feel bad...I like the uniqueness of it all.....kinda like the weblys...Ugly but tested tough ay?

ive been happy with mine. mine only works reliably in single action though. ive head its the ammo. also an under powered round, but for the price a pretty solid pistol.

I saw something about being able to swap out cylinders that use readily available pistol ammo. 32 ACP cal IIRC. Sometimes fitting was required for the proper times.

There are some out there that say they have no problems shooting .32 H&R through their Nagants. Leading is a concern so jacketed or plated bullets are recommended. I am not sure that is safe ammo. I would check the SAAMI spec on the .32 and bounce it against the low powered Nagant before putting any through it.

A Nagant revolver is the only C&R pistol that's come on the market in quantities in the last decade that I've had absolutely no interest in buying ..... until now. Stop it you guys!

I am planning on shooting Nagant ammo only thru it....I suppose since that is what was intended to go thru the pistol I will shoot what is supposed to go thru it. It is nice to know that there is a "fall-back" round to go to if I must.

Century has .32 ACP cylinders, they are normally a drop in fit. The cases can be made from .32-20 cases and Lee has (had) dies to make them. Someone must have one locally as I have found a large amount of cases at the range. Not reloadanble of couse. Neat old gun, built like a tank, horribly underpowered for shooting anything larger than rabbits and rats.

Hot Shot is making nagant ammo now, it was the cheapest I could find when I bought some a couple of months ago.

the problem with using any other round than regular nagant ammo is that the nagant has an oddly shaped chamber and no other rounds will fit it exactly, and you'll have excessive freebore with any other round to boot.

Yea, I've heard about how horrible those things are, the 8000lb trigger pull seems to be the biggest complaint.

i had a nagant at one point, i loved the little pistol, i was stupid and sold it... 32 s&w long was fine in it, the case expanded and cracked but it shot. but the nagant ammo was great in it! they also say 32 magnum works but i would stay with nagant or go to the 32 acp setup. the double action is strong, but not bad, and you can make it better if you polish the spring, just don;t get it hot, it will take any spring out
