I want to try at a CMP garand shoot and I know they have them at butner which is not far from my family home and I need to know what I have to do to be able to shoot in the event with just a service grade garand and I have no garand experience. But I want to try when I get back next summer. And I look forward to meeting some NC shooters as well as falfile members. Thanks in advance.

Not sure what you want to know. Are you asking about equipment, ammo, sign-up procedure, or other?
Service-grade rifles are the norm in these matches. Some matches have a separate class called "modified" for match-tuned and bedded guns, but the main event is for "as-issued" rifles.
You will want a good 200 yard zero on your rifle, as the whole event is shot at that distance on the SR target. A rifle that shoots 3 minutes or under can clean the course (with perfect holding).
Ideally, you should bring a spotting scope, at least three clips (one being a two-shot version), and a mat to shoot from. Naturally, a sling as well. Any other stuff, from shooting jacket to folding chair and a lunch, are up to you.
Information on the exact match format can be found under "competitions" header at www.odcmp.org Matches can be anywhere from 30 to 50 record shots, plus 5 to 10 sighters.
Bet you'll have fun.
