I just purchased a Springfield mil spec 1911 and am very impressed with its accuracy. I just came in from the back yard after shooting 100 rounds through it and was able to keep the vast majority in a 3 inch ring at 30 yards.
I purchased 3 Wilson Combat magazines and noticed that even loaded down from 8 to 7 rounds, they don't latch as easily as the Springfield mags.
I was going to purchase more mags and will probably go Springfield since I can buy them at $9.00 apiece.
- Have any of you had a similar experience?
thanks,
Louis

I had two of the wilson mags, my first and last. Mine did the same thing, would not feed at all. I have colts, springfields & an old norinco , I tried it in all three. I have had great results, well the only mag I will buy is Chip McCormick. Probably have 20 or so & they never miss a lick. Those Springfields are the cat's meow & their costomer service is great too!

Last I heard, SA 1911 mags are made by Metalform, a Colt contractor. They have always worked well for me--suggest you buy a bunch at $9/per.

Thanks for the advice, I just sent a check to purchase ten mags.
Springfields loaded coupon is a great deal-picked up a cleaning kit and holster really cheap along with the mags at $9.00 each.

Hey where are you getting Springfield mags for $9 ?
I'd like to get some for that price.
I like the Mecgar mags too, they work great and hold 8 rds.
I can get them for like $16
I just saw your post, so you have to have a coupon?

Mec-Gar ads state they make mags for Springfield Armory, S&W, Browning, etc., etc., etc. Colt uses at least five different makers to make Colt "factory" mags. I only use Chip McCormick now, although Pachmyer is excellent, but a 7 rd. I haven't had problems with Metalform either, but like Shooting Star better. The Kimber mag that came with the gun was JUNK, refused to feed ANYTHING in any gun it was tried in, so I threw it away so I wouldn't accidentally use it. Try CDNN for good mag prices.

Ready.Aim.Fire,
I had a similar feel with HK steel magazines in my M4. They kind of rattle in my Colt but run flawlessly. Do your's have operational issues or just feel differently?
I think you will find that Springfield Armory magazines are closer to $30 each when spec'd like Wilson's.
I also don't agree with some of the comments regarding Wilson magazines. Most casual shooters will never wear out an OEM magazine so might not see the benefits of Wilson. However, consider that most elite military and police organizations that still use 1911's nearly universally spec Wilson mag's. That in itself says something.
I believe the Check Mate Industry (CMI) magazines I purchased last year were as good as my Wilson but I don't shoot enough to know for sure. So, I would base my magazine choice on what professionals are saying or choosing rather than our, less than scientific, opinions.

If you buy a new Springfield, you get a "coupon" which essentially is a price sheet of about 30 items such as magazines, cleaning kits, etc. for sale at wholesale prices.
I burned another couple hundred rounds through it this weekend, hands down, this machine likes the Springfield mags, hope the ten I ordered are just like the two that came with it.
thanks,
Louis
My Springer hated the MecGar 8 rounders. All kinds of jams, nose up, nose down. Jammed some rounds so hard that the bullet re-seated a quarter of an inch deeper. That makes for a very hot load. It only likes the original 7 rounders that came with it or Chip McCormick 8 rounders.

My Springfield 1911 runs great with the Mecgar mags, never had a problem.
They are the only mags I've used in it the last 2 years.
I will gladly give you $12 per mag if you don't want your Mecgars assuming they are not damaged in any way.

I use Chip McCormicks and Wilsons and have never had a mag related malfunction in my Kimber.
I don't know about Springfields but it seems to me if Wilsons don't fit right in your Springer the pistol may be at fault not the mag.
A colleague of mine has a Springer and doesn't have a problem with either McCormicks or Wilsons.

Sorry I already gave all 6 MecGars away. I had a kb while using them. Blew my cocobolo grips off and bloodied up my face a bit. Im guessing that a round got re-seated while cycling and caused a pressure spike. But I'll never know for sure.
