I was at the gunstore the other day when a crop of new Savages came in..saw the scout and noticed some improvements over the original--new accustock is nice..better trigger ofcourse and all parts are matte finished with a nice big tactical type bolt..ghost rings sight on rear..mag fed..retail was right around $650--

I have an older Scout, which I really like. I replaced the trigger with a Rifle Basix model and it works well.

Two things I'd like to see, a better more affordable, higher cap magazine and a stripper clip guide adapted to the rear sight base.

Someone could make a bit of money offering a Savage replacement bolt head featuring a REAL extractor.

I really like how well my 10FP shoots but must agree the extractor is a POS. I would NEVER trust a high dollar hunt (let alone my life) to that sucker. Yet people call me old fashioned for sticking with Mausers and claw M70s.

Can you top off the magazine from the top in the Scout? Not sure I consider the magazine an "improvement." Stripper clips are fast, proven, and cheap. (Guess that is why gun makers don't like them...)

i've seen some mighty fine 'scouts' confiiged out of old Mausers..with the stripperclip capability..might be the ultimate rifle--new barrel, stock, trigger and a detachable scope with the open sights and yer good to go--I have to agree--the extractor is a POS from hell..mine failed after less than a 1,000 rds fired--and I do not consider 'mag fed' an improvment--just one more vital part that once lost reverts your rifle into a single shot..one reason why I sold a VERY NICE CZ 243--replacement mags were nearly $50 per..what a rip
