Can any of you give me a heads up on installing a Sage EBR on a SOCOM 16? I'm wanting to buy one but have read reports about difficult istallation and fitting.

You have to remove the Flash suppressor, and Gas cylinder. Unless You have the tools and the skills to do this. I would have a gunsmith do this for You. You have to install a sage made oprod guide.

Same issues with a Scout 18" barrel model?

It wasnt that difficult on my M1A as long as you have some decent tools. Took about an hour and that was because I was overly cautious.

Need quality torx screwdriver and or bits not to strip new screws, Torque wrench for new screws, allen wrench or bits to fit front site lock screw, castle nut wrench pliers for front sight removal (didnt have one at the time and had to use a small hammer and brass punch tapping the nut counter clockwise till loose) Now I own a set. Also need a 3/8 wrench for the gas/cylinder and a rubber mallet and a 5/32 punch or 3/16 either work. The hardest thing is replacing the operating rod guide which is actually easy, just knock out pin with punch, and use the rubber mallet to tap it towards the muzzle. The teeth are wedged so once you move it will get pretty easy. Replace it with the one they give you, tap it on line up the pin hole (they say you dont need to re install the pin but I did it any way) put pin back in. Easier than you think and you dont need a gunsmith to do it. Go here for easier dissasembly will help give you an idea how it comes apart. http://www.surplusrifle.com/m14m1a/rifledisassembly/index.asp
