View Full Version : Lower receiver catch spring pin
The pin that holds the spring assembly for the catch, can I just use a bit of mild steel welding rod, or does it need to be special?

I did notice that the original one was punched/dimpled on both ends, so seems to be to be soft enough to form.

I don't think there is any magic metal involved.
Do know that the pin has to be narrowed in the center to allow passage of the lock-lever retaining screw.

Are those pins hollow?
I don't see any reduced diameter in the center either.

The metric pins have the smaller diameter in the middle as far as I know the inch are the same diameter all the way across but have the "cups" on the ends so they can be peened into place

Metrics have a wasp waist so the spring pressure of the latch will keep it in place. Inchies must be deformed.
