i recently picked up a british plastic furniture set for my century/imbel L1A1..i already have ironwood on it and plan to use this as a backup set...

questions:

my handguards seem to be a little "bowed" or at least one is...when i hold them together in my hands, they dont fit flush together...they may fit different on the rifle..anyone else have this problem?

the stock has the remnants of some arsenal/rack paint marks on them...any info on what these marks looked like? there is a white "39" painted on the end of the buttstock on the top of the stock...and remnants of white and yellow paint on other parts of the stock as well...

would you paint these stocks to "freshen them up "or leave them as is? would painting lower any value?

thanks and if anyone has any pics they think may help feel free to post them...

My plastic handguards were bowed inward, and mated together nice and
tight when installed.

If you have the Brit pebblegrain maranyl HGs, I think they are made with a slight bow on purpose. Keeps them tight when installed.
But the smooth Century plastic HGs are just warped.

Mine were painted with numbers and painted over with black paint and new numbers applied. The paint fills the grain pattern and even with black paint covering the numbers it did not look good to me. I removed the paint with an alligator brush and 91% isopropyl alcohol . Try your handguards on your rifle. They should fit securely together with a tight seam where the halves meet.
