I am thinking about a second FAL and want to get an inch. The pawn shop has tons of thumbhole stock inch guns that I could make a deal on,,, are those all century? would it be worth getting one and putting 922r parts in it I am assuming thumbhole guns do not have any 922 parts in them except the receiver?

A lot of those have an Imbel receiver and are great places to start. Many are frankenfals that take metric magazines and are good guns. My first FAL was one of those.

My Izzy FAL was also one of those back in 1999. It took a lot of work to get it functioning correctly (jamma-matic, single shot issues). The Imbel receiver was the saving grace.

Usually, the receivers in these rifles are Argy or Imbel and do not count as a compliant part.

In their present configuration, they are legal. Once you begin to "restore" them by removing the butthole stock or threading the muzzle, the compliant parts searching fun starts.

A metric mag franken is fine with me I have all metric mags. I just prefer the inch forends, selectors takedowns and mag releases.

922r is much easier if your thumbhole FAL is cut for metric mags. No more worrying about hard to find inch compliance parts. DSA US mag, US H/T/S and gas piston and you're compliant.

OmegaMBR,

What are the pawnshops asking for them?

Tons of thumbhole stock FALs? I wish that pawn shop was in Tennessee.

950 for all she has like 10 at least plus some preban FNs

950 seems kinda steep for a thumbhole rifle.

Look on gunbroker.com. There are several thumbholes on there. I think they are selling for around $700?

About $700 is reasonable if the receiver is Imbel. It should say something like "receiver made in Brazil by Imbel" on it. If she has 10, I bet she will be glad to get an offer on one. Might even see if you can test fire some before choosing one.

Contrary to one of the above posts, the lower will be inch and will need hard to find inch US HTS.

Pre-ban FNs - why don't you tell us where this place is once you have made your deal!
