Building a frankenfal with Aussie kit on metric receiver. Do I need a metric top cover to make this work properly? I have the inch top cover, but don't want to ruin it by cutting the tab off. Will a metric top cover fit properly and look like it belongs there?

Yes metric cover is what you want for a metric receiver.

My metric receiver allows for the tabs. It's an Imbel from a Century Sporter build. I use a SUIT top cover with tabs intact.

Your metric receiver has been modified for an inch top cover. An unmodified metric receiver will not accept a unmodified inch top cover.
