View Full Version : STI Spartan opinions?
I'm lookin' at getting one of these further down the line, as I'm currently without a .45 or 1911. Mostly going to be a range toy, but it could see possible carry use. Anything to watch out for, or is it rock solid?

I don't own one myself, but I did get a chance to put about 50 rounds down range with one. I liked it, it was well made, accurate and had a pretty good trigger. I did have a few fail to feed problems, but it was the ammo (reloads) and not the pistol. It digested all the factory ammo that was thrown its way.

I haven't shot one. The local "Toy" store is carrying them now.
The workmanship looked first rate.
I don't think I've ever seen a mirror polish on a factory feedramp before.
That's good because I like to look at my visage in the feed ramp. :D Sounds like I'll go with it once I get some cash to spare. Thanks.

IIRC Michael Bane and Mas both rated them highly. FWIW, Mas doesn't give bad reviews - if he doesn't like something he won't give a review on it...

More encouraging news. Thanks.

Couple of guys have STI's (Edge's) at my range, both in 9x19 and .40S&W. Good, tight tolernaces and very accurate. Finish is top notch too.
The magazines are a different story however. The followers are shit, or at least they can be. We have had issues with mags that are either too full or too empty and that just isn't cricket IMHO, especially when talking about a €2100 pistol. The working of the Slide Stop is irregular bacause of it. This mag engagaes the Slide Stop while this one doesn't, kind of thing.
If a magazine can hold 19 rounds it should feed 19 rounds reliably, each and every time. It's one of my pet hates  that some mags "don't like more than so many rounds" or "that mag hates SWC's" bla bla bla.
The Spartan uses a standard 1911 frame, so I'll just get some Wilson mags and be done with that.
