Since there has been so much talk about 870's, I figured it was time to start a pic thread.

Police issue 870 bought from Files member SamB of Firefly Arms 6 or so years back. Was in well used and beat up condition before Sam refurbished it and applied Norrel's MolyResin to it. Has been very reliable and a favorite wrist cruncher. Have most of the parts/furniture to return it to issue condition.

Yo got more "Dreadlocks on your Nuts" than I.

Shooting a pistol-gripped 12 ga. loaded with Buckshot or slugs is my idea of unnecessary punishment for doing nothing wrong. :uhoh:

I also leave one-handed shotty gun shootin' to the tough guys like Chuck! :D

Mine is just a plain vanilla Rem 870 Exp Mag with a 20" barrel equipped with rifle sights. Found a 28" smooth bore barrel later with Rem choke so now I got a "Combo" :shades:

I've got the same rig MAINER.
Did you get a vent rib with yours also ?
Mine was used, well used, rifled barrel only.
I'll just have to "settle" for the 11-87 Premier 12 gauge for Fudd type activities, when so inclined, I guess.

OH yeah, better believe it's got a rib. Being primarily a rifle/pistol shooter, them shotguns is like aiming down a railroad track to me. Ribs were likely invented by a rifle crank trying to hit something with a shotgun. :D

For Fuddy type events, I just dust off the Over/Under Double and adopt an attitude of disdain for lowly single barreled smokepoles.

Course, I just walk about with it broke over my shoulder, it's never actually fired, ya understand!

Poor pic, but here is mine. I took the extended mag off, as the Express tube had the "dimple" which I drilled out. Well, the 3/16th hole caused a shell to hang up & I will not sacrifice reliability for a couple of extra shells. I need an old 870 for a project gun!! Got one in the works, but nothing definate yet.
My "skeet gun"..........the extended choke is a Remington "breacher".....lol

Here's mine hanging out with my other commercial guns.
Nothing special really except sentimental value. My dad
bought it in the early 80s I think. My dad says it looks the same as when he bought it at K-mart. He gave up shooting a long time
ago and once I got into shooting he figured I would enjoy it much more.
I have taken quite a few clay birds and actual game with it. It's my only
shotgun and most likely will be the only one except for a side-by-side.

Now that you started this thread I have to post it again.

I have added the flexi tab kit since the pictures were taken, now the bolt and shell lifter are a nice flat black. Haven't decided if I'll mount a flashlight or not, that's the only other thing I would consider doing to it.

How's that Knoxx stock TXscout ?
Decent quality ?
Also, does it have the recoil reduction ? And, if so, how well does it work ?
I've been a bit tempted. Bet you couldn't guess ?

I just put the thing on, a couple of weeks ago, and haven't had a change to put it through the ringer. It fits well and, and pointing feels better to me, probably because of the shorter/adjustable LOP, and the pistol grip--It feels less barrel heavy.

It's seems to be built very well, and mounts solidly to the receiver/receiver nut. You need an extra long t-handle allen wrench to mount it.

From friends I have talked with, and from what I have read, the recoil reduction is pretty effective especially with magnum buck and slug loads.

I am interested in seeing what it'll do, myself, and will follow up with a range report, when I can.

ETA:

FYI-- while I had the shotgun partially disassembled--I got a wild hair, and made a forearm spanner wrench out of a 1"x5" steel pipe nipple for $3.00.

I cut the threads off of one end, sanded/tapered the threads down on the other end, so the OD would fit inside of the forearm. I cut out a basic wrench template with a Dremel, based on the measurements of the forearm spanner nut.

After that, I filed and squared the edges with a hand file--it fits perfectly. Finally, I drilled a hole all the way through so you could use a screwdriver as a t-handle, for a more positive grip.

Saved me about $30 bucks, and now I can break the gun all the way down for cleaning/maintenance. I could never get the nut tight enough using needle-nose pliers. This will work for Mossbergs too, I believe.

TXscout- You gotta post pics of that wrench you made. That sounds perfect.

bykerhd-I have hada Knoxx Spec Ops stock on my 870 for a while now. I have read that some people don't like it but I have to say it works well for me. Buck and slug recoil is reduced significantly. In fact, I switched over to some 3" 15 pellet 00 buck from Remington for the 870 and it kicks less that my 20 gauge single shot with birdshot.
Since the receiver moves rearward and then back forward on the stock "track", you can also time your pump cycle to take advantage of the movement with a little practice. Your second shot can be quite speedy.
The only negative thing I can say about the Knoxx is that it looks uglier than homemade sin.

Hi Guys,

Just click on the thumbnails for a fullsize pic.

Now it has a 3-slot rail and a laser under the tube. Sorry but no pics yet.

I picked up one of the SOG 870 Police Magnum trade-ins a couple of years ago. It had duct tape on the stock (not repairing damage -- probably to attach something) and the trigger pack pins were held in with scotch tape (!). I think I paid about $200 after shipping and transfer.

Plenty of scratches and wear on it, but the action was butter smooth. Cleaned up very well. I got the proper clips to hold in the pins.

Kinda makes me wonder what kind of armorer that police department had.

Pachmayr foregrip, Speed Feed stock, extended mag tube and Black Teflon finish on everything.:D
