Aussie handguards

Did the Aussie L1a1 guns ever come with metal handguards? My I.O. kit came with metal ones and no grip... They stated that handguards were included and they will send me a plastic grip... That doesn't sound right...or does it?

I think NZ used plastic replacement furniture. The metal handguards are either G1 or STG's.

NZ wood early on but changed to plastic
