View Full Version : New Century Sporter Problem

I wanted to buy some spare bolt parts (exractor, firing pin etc.) for my Century Sporter. I talked to James @ GPG, and after sending pix of my bolt, it turns out that the bolt is INDIAN. The Indian bolt is in a BRITISH bolt carrier. James said that combination will eventully cause problems, so I have a nice Brit bolt coming. Since the rifle will probably need to be headspaced again, I also bought an Indian bolt carrier to keep me running for now. I'll try to either obtain the headspace guages and check it, or just take it to a FAL smith. I think Sledgehammer might be within driving distance. The Indian carrier I bought is almost unissued so I might use it for a while. I just hate the thought of being without my rifle in times like these.
Owners of early Century Sporters might want to check their bolt. My rifle is a "C" prefix serial, very early.
Almost forgot to add that James at GPG is the great. Through many e-mails and phone calls he talked me off the ledge. Extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Thanks James!

Is this just because the indian stuff was reverse engineered and so it has different tolerances?
I know there mags were slightly longer.

All I know is James said the extractors were the same but not the firing pin. Also the Indian bolt in a British carrier would cause bolt wear problems after a 1000 rds or so...maybe less, but an Indian bolt in an Indian carrier would work fine. Just got the parts in the mail today.

from what i understand the indians reversed engineered it but kinda did their own thing as well...the upper/barrel etc was pretty much inch, i think...the lower was kinda inch but had a metric type buttstock...but the stock was its own thing as well...i dont think other metric stocks would fit....
i got the fal book...guess i could look it up...

Function tested the Indian carrier and bolt. Worked great, no problems. Brass was perfect...no bulges, no weird primers, no dented case mouths...brass landed about 5 ft away, all together, straight out from rifle. I'm a happy guy.
BTW, the ammo used was R1M1 80 and AFF 89.
Now, the barrel crown!
