Hey.........
I just got a super deal on a mossberg 500 series with the C-lect choke:rofl:
I didnt pay anything for it and have always wanted some cheapo shotgun to stash for home defense while the rest of the litter is locked up in the gunsafe. (Been robbed before) Im all ready planning to cut the barrel down above the legal length but what else would be a good modification. Im a Remy 870 fan so this is all new to me.
TIA

Why not just get a replacement barrel with the ghost ring sights and an exteded mag tube and then you can have one for sport and one for home D.

I guess I could but I allready have two 870's for sporting. The other one is a marine magnum but I dont want to risk getting it stolen. State farm has already said that next claim they're going to drop me. They are anyway here pretty soon, the jackasses.

You do want a little choke to help keep the pattern consistent plus it would be worth more if and when you ever decide to sell it.

You can't do an extended tube on a Mossberg without serious work.

I like mine with an ATI pistol grip with M4 style adjustable stock.

You just need to unscrew the tube from the receiver. You will need a strap wrench if you can't break it loose with your hands.
Of course, by the time you spend the $$ for the replacement parts(mag tube, barrel, spring, etc..), you'll be close in price to simply buying another 500!!

How about the mod for a rotary 20 rounder made for the Mossberg? I think it's by Cobb mfg. (?). That and a rifle sighted barrel , rifled or not, would make an interesting HDW. Ron

years, and I like to keep things very simple. First the gun itself is a great selection - the safety, loading and ejection system is great, and although light, the gun is rugged and reliable, I think even more than the rem.
I cut my ribbed barrel at 19" ( I still have a long factory ported barrel with the screw in chokes for hunting). You might be able to find a used barrel to cut if you want to keep it dual purpose.
I use the factory standard wood furniture - I don't like a shotgun with just a handgrip or with a folding stock. I use a bandolieer full of Remington 00buck and slugs , hang the bandolieer over the gun. That's it. I want to keep the gun light, and easy to manipulate, but have a real solid stock and I don't want to have to think about anything if I have to get the thing working at 3AM.
I am not an expert, but I did carry a shotgun when I was in the Army in the late '60's and I really prefer the 500 above anything else, and I have used them all.

aka the Dial-a-Duck. That's a decent shotgun - I learned to shoot clays on one of those when I was 10 or 11
