Headspace ?

I am replacing a damaged bolt in my thumbhole century sporter marked "L1A1 .308"

I was told I need to headspace the rifle after the replacement.

How do I headspace it so it safely shoots 7.62 nato and .308 win?

Can anybody spare some time and explain this? I am planning on buying the gauges and doing it myself.
