I understand that New Zealand L1A1s were produced under contract by SAF Lithgow of Australia, and that there are no external differences other than the carry handles. Is this correct?

The green plastic carry plastic handle on my NZ contract rifle is slightly different than the handles I've seen on Australian rifles. The finger indentations are deeper, and there is a plastic shroud around the wire where it meets the handle. Is this correct for NZ contract rifles?

Sorry not to be able to provide photos.

Many thanks!
