Bought a Century Sporter FAL at the gunshow yesterday. Came with a DSA Top cover and 11 mags, 10 still in Cosmoline.

Took it to the range for a quick function check last night, and of the 40 rounds I ran through it, I had about 8 stove pipes, which got less when I closed the gas regulator all the way.

It doesn't look like there is a lot of cosmoline in the gun, and the gas piston doesn't leak really dirty or greasy.

Any ideas what this may be?

Is it a Metric receiver, with Inch parts? What kind of mags does it take?

Hi

Its actually a Imbel Inch receiver, but cut to use metric mags , with an Ausie inch lower receiver . Its a VERY GOOD Receiver !!

Thanks!

about the cycling issue, I just had the thing apart, and the actual gas tube is very very loose. As in rattling away. Is that right?

The gas tube should be able to turn slightly left and slightly right. This is normal. If you can just unscrew the tube completely then your gas tube pin is missing. Which will cause it not to cycle.

Don't ask me how I know :)

The timing on my century was off. If your timing on your barrel is off bad enough it could make the piston bind.\

Depending on price you did good. My first gun was a century l1a1 on the same receiver. It will last longer than you will :)

So the tube screws into where? The gas block?

Just checked again, it rotates a bit, loosely, but only a bit. I'd say it's pinned.

Also, which way does the gas plug in the front go in? Does that matter? I noticed it not symmetrical, so I'm sure there's a right and a wrong...

Unscrew the gas regulator and see if the pin that holds the tube in place is still there.

How do you do that?
Sorry, I'm a complete FAL noob...

Functionality may be affected by the shortened barrel. You may need to open up the gas port hole a little to accomodate the shorter barrel and improve reliability. Your barrel looks to be about 16 1/2". Looks like you got a nice rifle there !

Take the handguard off and you can see who made the barrel.

You might want to remove the gas piston and make sure it isn't one of the 2 piece century jobs. If it is, shit can that thing and get a good piston.

Looks like an Imbel receiver and an Australian lower. Most other parts appear to be British. The magazine is metric, and probably German or Austrian. You have a real freakin' mongrelized mess. I love it!
