Hello!

I haven't been able to decide if I want to do an 11" or a 13" OSW FAL. Does anybody have pictures of their (or other peoples') 11" and 13" setups? I'd like to compare them to each other.

Also, any advice, words, of wisdom, etc., are welcome.

The little research I did came up with this. By the time a 308 goes that short, it has 7.62x39 ballistics. Therefore I concluded unless you are going for the look, not is not much point.

I had a 13" bbl OSW FAL .. my brother kept telling me the ballistics would be similar or less than 7.62x39.

Well I took it deer hunting and shot a buck on a full frontal shot. The bullet went through the deer length-wise and dropped him dead. He was literally dead before he hit the ground.

Don't let pessimists discourage you ... it still packs plenty of "umpth"!

Chrono results of US LC M80 show only a 600 fps or so loss. Show me the 7.62x39 shooting 147 gr bullets at 2200 FPS. I like mine, but going back on it I would have went 13 in instead of 11. for no other reason than the 11 seems to put you in the blast wave of the muzzle. Recoil is about the same as an AK, less with a DNTC brake, and it is LOUD. VERY VERY LOUD. I did some reloads of 125 grain and it was on at 25 and 100, very light recoil and the extra powder made the brake do its job better. It is still the exct same length as an AK with a fixed stock. Where it would shine in a cqb role would be with 165 gr or so bullets. A suppressor that can handle it would take away the death roar, but add length. And the fireball is about 2 feet in diameter, and YES, the Vortex will KILL IT. In .45 ACP with an alumabomb reciever, its a fun fun fun platform.

The better SBR for less money, and more fun to shoot? pick one of these here. Krink hands down the favorite. The 53 is fun, but not AK fun.

My little kitten heart won't let me paint the OSW, or 53.... the krink may be in danger.... I need to park the reciever, redo the trigger gaurd rivets, the do a good black over park. If I can't find a place to park it, it will get Rhodied up eventually.... :uhoh:

I have a transferable full-Auto OSW Para thats on a LaFrance type three receiver with a Galil Arm folding stock that has the rubber recoil pad on the butt Plate. Barrel is 11 inches. Now the down side besides all the noise it makes on semi or full auto which WAKES UP PEOPLE ON THE RANGE, Your restricted to certain types of brakes or Flash hiders with the 11 inch barrel due to the fact that the barrel isn't long enough in the back side of were the muzzle threads are. I'm going to buy a vortex like Panzer did because the DSA cut in half combo device doesn't really do much except come loose all the time.

You will LOVE the vortex. The DNTC is effective as well, but makes it louder. I didn't think anything could but it does. Will help control the bursts. 110-125 gr ammo is very complimenting to the DNTC. VERY complimenting.

FWIW,

I spent a good amount of time and effort to put together an 11" FAL.

In the end, I switched to a 13" bbl length to get the thing to cycle reliably.

Sure, the 11" worked, just not 100%. With a suppressor it would have been much better.

If I were to do it again, I wouldn't do it at all.
It looks cool, sure, but it is horribly inaccurate even with the 13".

I rarely even take it out of the safe, and I've recently considered going to a length closer to 14.5" or 15", as I would like it to at least hit 300m targets.

For comparison, my 11.5" AR hits 300m targets easily.

I can hit the 300yd gong all day long with my eotech mounted OSW. Works 100% but I bought it from DSA that way. It is very loud and always hear people bitching under their breath at the range when the can isnt on but what did they expect? Your at a shooting range!

Any chance you could check your gas port hole size?

I would love to know what DSA is using in that para setup.

Some of my FTE problems may be because I ran with the full stock setup.

SO..... the loaded chamber indicator is the tip of the bullet jutting out the end of the barrel? So you see kids, the morel of the story is that anything is possable without that pesky gas system getting in the way....

That's an abomination. Absolutely ridiculous.

Ok, ok, I'm still jealous.

The irony of a 1200 meter site on that super shorty!

And a sun shade that would probably be melted by the muzzle blast.

I'm guessing that's not quite the way its set up when he actually shoots it.

I would appreciate the gas port size as well.
