Hey guys, I just received an unsolicited catologue that is selling composite FAL inch mags. They don't identify the maker. Anyone have one of these? If so how well do they work? $28.00 was way over the top but if they are any good I'm sure a better price could be found {mabey a group buy from the maker}. I'll try to find the maker. There doesn't seem to be many people that use them. Search "thermold" and there have been many discussions about them.

I highly doubt they were thermolds. I haven't seen many people with them but I have seem some that worked just fine and they count as 3 u.s. parts. Those are the only non metal fal mags ive heard of though. I doubt youll find a cheaper price. if you can find them elsewhere.

"Thermold" was (is) a brand name for a specific company making polymer mags. Ternmo-mold may not be the same company, it might be worth checking to see if it is. IIRC Thermold mags were a lot more expensive than the ones you're looking at.
Several members here had problems with Thermold mags due to things like feed lip thickness & fit into the reciever's magazine well. Having said this the only Thermold mag I ever tried was in another members inch pattern build & it ran like a top.
Based on this I'm still looking for a source for metric ones. I'd try one, to see which is the truth, and if it worked get a boatload of them, regardless of price.

I have an inch Thermold Labeled Mag dated "88". Works fine. I paid $50 several years ago. It is the only one I have seen.

I just ordered three [all I could afford] THERMOLD FAL 20 rd mags
29.95 ea from --Delta force out of AZ Phone#1-870-862-3811.
They said they had a good number in stock. I hope this helps some of us inchers out and I get to make my first real contribution here by bringing these to light. namaste

Sorry I couldn't get to you sooner. As soon as you can, test fire them.
I had some (from the same comapny) that didn't work because the plastic lips were too thick. The bolt slid right over the top of the rounds and didn't pick them up. I have CAI (formerly) frought with problems and of the three mags I bought, none of them worked. I tried to get them to replace them and they said they'd only give a credit. (Part of the problem was I tried them at home, just cycling rounds and it worked there. But not on the range where it counted.) I went to my CC company and told them what was going on. What stopped the charge was the fact they didn't identify the mags as plastic. So my charge was refunded and I mailed in the mags per my CC company. Check 'em out and good luck.

If the mags fit up good could you not "file, sand or dremel" lips to feed? Seems like most of the frank'nfals we are nursing back to health and function need some careful adjustments now and then to get proper feeding etc.Just a thought from a learner.

It would depend on which part was too thick, the inside, or the outside.

If the inside spec is too narrow the next round won't pop up enough for the bolt to grab it. In that case the inside of the lips could be widened/thinned till there was dependable contact between the bolt's bottom & the round ready to feed.

I'd need to actually have on in my hot, grubby little hands to play with, as it could be other things (like the whole shebang sitting a little low in the reciever) that would be hard to fix.
The only one I've actually used wasn't mine & was working, so that's not a god basis for experimentation.

I received the mags and gave them a run through, My rifle was quite happy with them. Fed well. Good construction and lighter than other polymer mags I have.
