View Full Version : A proposal: Inch pattern only forum

This may have been suggested in the past, but not to my recent memory. Last year the FN Forum was introduced. This was (apparently) a result of the board becoming otherwise so diluted that FN-FAL specific information sharing was being lost in the noise about beanie-baby auctions, black rifles, and tinfoil hats.

With this in mind, I propose the establishment of an inch-pattern only forum. In the same spirit of the FN forum, this inch-pattern forum would be the appropriate place to post and discuss anything about:

Canadian C1/C2 rifles and their development
British and Australian L1/L2 rifles and their development
Given their trans-gender nature, Indian rifles.
Any associated accouterments, tools, gear, etc.
And any other appropriate suggestion.

I recommend this because FN didn't make the inch patterns, though they were the foundation for them. The Canadians had manufacturing rights from FN in 1954, the same year the Belgians adopted the M1. The Brits sealed their pattern only a couple years later. Given the DSA inch, Imbel inch, and current and soon to be released Entreprise inch receivers, not to mention the number of Canadian clones being built, it seems appropriate to give these rifles a specific forum given that the same questions get asked over and over about them.

The end state is to help better organize the data we all seek and share.

Stick in between the FN Forum and the AR forum out of deference to the FN-FAL but keeping the AR and other types listed subordinate in the list.

Is there any interest in such forum?

Regards

Ben

Can't vote, but it sounds good to me. Just wish I had more of em (Inchers) to tinker with. :D

Maybe I can scare up a cheap Brit to build. :shades:

Yes. Don't know why it wasn't done a long time ago. I think it would save a lot of confusion for people new to Fals and the forums.

I voted no.

Too many forums now.
This is just going to confuse the Heck out of the newbies coming in to ask about their Century R1A1 FrankenFALs.
And, end up otherwise as just another under utilized semi-Dead Zone.

I,m in 100% - We need the sharing of information to correctly ID parts and markings. Parts - accessories & acutraments.
Thanks D.

i said yes, but maybe it should be done as sub forums, as in go under the fn files then make a inch and metric and then other fn rifles section

Yep.

IMHO, we already have at least three times more forums than make any practical sense.

I'm not about to go digging through all the forums to find old threads to move to a NEW forum just for the sake of populating the forum with stuff that might be on-topic. Otherwise, we get like maybe one thread a week that is clearly an inch-related question? And half of those threads are noobs asking whether they can use a folding charging handle on an IMBEL receiver or whether metric h/t/s can be used in whatever they think is an "L1A1."

Having said my piece, and to avoid being an ass about it, you can have at it here: http://www.falfiles.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=154

We'll see how it goes.

I hear where you are coming from. Leave things as they are thread wise. Info will migrate.

The argument that there are too many weapons specific forums is valid. There was a time when eveything non-FAL related went in that catch-all place called "general firearms discussion". With 12 other weapon types having their own forum... I would have cried foul if you had not established the inch forum.

But inch patterns deserve a spot, and thanks for the consideration. We'll see how this goes.

I agree. There are not a whole lot of inch rifles out there (compared to metrics) but I think enough that there would be an active file. It would be nice to be able to sort out the variations as one is building a rifle. My poor C1A1 has been apart twice now as info becomes available and I "correct" things. Having a spot to got to to ask questions or do specfic searches would be great.
Just my $.02

YES!

This is the "FAL" Files. And not a single technical forum dedicated to the FAL, now is there?

The site is diluted, time to get back on focus.

I'd have:
FN Pattern "Metric" FAL's
Commonwealth Pattern "Inch" FAL's
Early Pattern "T48 and EX" FAL's (or something like that)

I think there are too many forums too but this IS the Falfiles so get rid of the HK or some other Non FAL forum and add the Inch FAL forum.
I can't believe we didn't already have one!
