your thoughts on the best jig - Ed Brown or that Marvel thing ? - maybe something else ?
I'm concerned about small variations from frame to frame and am considering just using external pins and work down mounted on each individual frame ... ?
the jigs would be very usefull for working the "angle" of attack tho ... a little dykem and a little luck ... ?
TIA: ...

I COULD HAVE used something like that yesterday- After shooting my PARA .
being a series 80 style the two extra pieces that one goes on the right side of the disconnector/sear inside the frame, the other on the right side inside of the frame were the hammer pin goes through it, were hard to get in. I used a glock disassembly/assembly tool - (I recommend everyone have one of these in their tools-you can do everything but two things 1) unscrew the mag release 2)put a guide-rod recoil spring cap) - from the right side to hold them in place as I re-assembled step by step. Have not done a series 80 style with those two extra pieces in a 1911a1 in years. To make things worse I dry fired it by accident,so when I asembled it more than 3 times I thought I may have put those 2 pieces in wrong. It was the sear spring that was bent-- lesson-learned 1)do not dry fire a 1911a1 with the slide off. even by accident.2)look at the parts thoroughly if it does not cock, release or cant be cocked-something is wrong.3) If you have not done it in a while read some disassembly/assembly instructions and 4) to go with this thread have a THIRD hand of some sort if needed...

doing it external on the frame with extended pins has always been the best way .....to fit the gun you have

I have no experiance with the Ed Brown unit, but the marvel works very well. Costs more tho.

The Power Custom jig is the shitz, but expensive. With different adapters, you can do many different guns.
For a 1911-only jig, get the Marvel.

2nd that, I have the Power Custom jig with all the bits, does a great job, use good internals, not cheap cast crap, and you wont have to touch for tens of thousands of rounds.
