an AR in 22lr, seems like that would make a neat little rifle.

A folder on an AR lower dedicated for .22 LR would be great.
No quick changeover to centerfire if you do that though.
You're going to have to be pretty committed to leaving it as a .22 LR.
I'm using mine with the six position buttstock.

How about one of the $50 AK ones?

One of the "$50 AK ones" might work. With quite a bit, maybe a lot, of work.
The main issue would be fabricating an adapter that will screw in to the buffer tube hole in the lower. The adapter would then have to be mated to the modified plastic receiver mount of the cheapo AK folder.
And, it has to end up at a usable length.

The more expensive Ace folders are available in a variety of types and with an adapter that will work in an AR lower. No modifications required.
They sell the adapter for the lower for $ 30. You still need the hinge assembly before you can attach a standard AR collapsing stock assembly.
I've never seen one, except on the website. Looks good.
If I get a bunch of money I don't need, I'll probably order one and get a lower to use just as a .22 LR.
